Abstract

Summary

In recent years, strong velocity pulses of ground motion are considered in natural hazards. Former algorithms classified the pulse-like earthquake only in one dimension, but in this study a new algorithm is used that can be employed for assortment of earthquake pulses in any arbitrary direction which need more complicated calculation. To this end, Continuous Wavelet Transforms (CWT) was used to introduce directions which more likely to contain pulses. As a result, by these directions and Support Vector Machine (SVM) method the earthquake classification of pulses or pulse like is done. Afterwards, an introduced model in this paper predicts the probability of a pulse and pulse period in the future earthquakes. Using 23 accelerograph stations of the Bam Earthquake, we perform pulse recognition analysis on Bam station in the frequency range of 0.02 to 0.7 Hz, which has several different time period pulses. Also for 135 accelerograph records of the Kermanshah Earthquake, using the frequency range of 0.02 to 0.1 HZ, in SPZ station, time period pulse and PGV are calculated.
