Abstract

Summary

Stereo-tomography is a distinctive tomography method. The theory and application of isotropic stereo-tomography have been fully developed in the past two decades. In this paper, we apply the ray perturbation theory to the 2D quasi-acoustic eikonal equation for VTI media from whci the linear relation between the stereo-tomographic data components and the model components for qP-wave is derived. Thus the theoretical foundation of 2D VTI stereotomography based on 2D quasi-acoustic eikonal equation is established. When compared with the previous anisotropic stereo-tomography which has been derived in general anisotropic media, the kinematic information of converted wave mode and the polarization vectors are not necessarily taken into account as a data component thus the applicability of the presented method is promising. The sensitivity analysis and two synthetic data example demonstrate the correctness of the derived Frechet derivatives and the applicability of the presented work-flow.
