Abstract

Summary

We present a map-based stochastic simulation technique for assessing pre-drill STOOIP distributions in exploration prospects. This approach has many benefits compared to traditional Monte Carlo simulations, which treat the prospect as a homogenous tank. By retaining the link to geological data and spatial references throughout the simulation, results are more realistic and can be interrogated in a familiar map setting. The computational cost of this approach is low, allowing for near real-time updates in the posterior distributions as inputs are changed.
