Abstract

Summary

Reflection seismic data alone provide partial information on the absolute value of elastic parameters within the subsurface investigated. We discuss an autoregressive method for bandwidth extension applicable to PP pre-stack data. We also examine its integration with a three-term AVA inversion and support results via synthetic examples. When a limited number layers can reasonably accurately describe the main features of the subsurface, the analysis shows that the method can successfully estimate the absolute values of elastic parameters and highlight features of interest for hydrocarbon exploration. The main limitations of this technique are to be sought in the range of angles available for the inversion and in the tailored pre-processing required.
