Abstract
Seismic inversion is a powerful reservoir characterization tool. Due to the bandlimited nature of seismic data, we need to build a low frequency model for inclusion in seismic inverted result to obtain absolute values of elastic parameters. The most commonly used method to build a low frequency model is through the simple interpolation and extrapolation of well log data within a stratigraphic framework, which leads to a geology unrealistic low frequency model and thus biases the inverted result. To some degree, a geology-featured model can significantly improve the quality of the inversion result. We report a low frequency modelling method called seismic facies-controlled modelling in this abstract. The core idea of this method is to take advantage of seismic waveforms to guide the procedure of low frequency modelling. We apply this method to an impedance inversion of a tight sandstone reservoir. The inversion result clearly delineates geometry of this reservoir and lends a geologic significance to this reservoir distribution.
