Abstract

Summary

We are interested in well-known seismo-magnetic effect, manifesting the appearance of geomagnetic variations at Earth’s crust surface in the propagation of seismic waves. The available experimental data show that as the main factor determining the intensity of the electric and magnetic effects is environment heterogeneity. This heterogeneity of the medium structure, the presence of the interfaces between the rocks of different material composition, areas of medium disturbance and different stress-strain state helps to transform mechanical energy into electromagnetic energy. The data once again confirm the repeatedly expressed earlier view faults as special areas of the earth’s crust, internal structure and behaviors aggregate material is determined not only integral mechanical properties of the local areas of the earth’s crust, but also the complex processes associated with the transformation and interaction of geophysical fields. The role of fault zones in the transformation of energy between geophysical fields of different nature is significant that opens up new possibilities for mapping of active faults, evaluate the properties of their internal structure, as well as estimates of the possible differential shifts in the environment on the basis of analyzing spatial and temporal variations of geophysical fields.
