Abstract
In the seismic survey for SMS (Seafloor Massive Sulfide) exploration, it is necessary to consider “acquire high resolution data that can interpret the shape of the ore body in few meter order” and “exploration systems capable of separating noise due to complex topography”. Therefore, we have developed 3DVCS (Vertical Cable Seismic) and ACS (Autonomous Cable Seismic) so far. The former is a fixed recording system on seafloor to give highresolution 3D volume of subsurface structure. The latter is a deep-towed streamer system to obtain 2D section and more efficient than 3DVCS. We newly developed ZVCS (Zero-offset Vertical Cable Seismic) survey, which is a survey in the intermediate stage between ACS and VCS. ZVCS gives us the more detailed 2D reflection section than ACS. We carried out a ZVCS survey in the eastern Aogashima Caldera and obtained a high quality 2D section in hydrothermal area with complex topography. We concluded that the series of seismic surveys of ACS, ZVCS and 3DVCS is the useful package to focus SMS potential area.
