Abstract
There is a huge interest in finding gas reserves from clastics sediments within shallow intervals in Malay and Penyu Basins by PETRONAS. Currently, several fields are producing gas from shallow reservoirs which has motivated PETRONAS to conduct this study.
The available conventional marine seismic data were typically acquired to record signal from deep reflector (estimated more than 1000 ms). At shallow depth, the available conventional seismic data are lacking in near-offset traces and the near-angle stack is noisy, which are major issues affecting seismic reservoir characterization in shallow clastics in the case study.
Here we present a method which uses the site survey high-resolution 2D seismic data with denser line spacing to create pseudo 3D processed data cube as another possible source of seismic input for shallow marine exploration in offshore Peninsular Malaysia and present a low cost technique that can provide a pseudo 3D seismic data for seismic reservoir characterization. This approach also proposes an optimum main line spacing for the site survey acquisition design for geohazard assessment using pseudo 3D seismic data.
