Abstract

Summary

A persistent problem in the numerical modeling of wave propagation is the artificial reflections from boundaries introduced by a truncated computational domain. In this paper, we derive a second order approximation of oneway absorbing boundary condition (ABC) for the pseudo-acoustic wave equation in vertically transverse isotropic (VTI) media. Furthermore, we improve the absorption efficiency of the proposed second order ABC by extending the hybrid absorbing boundary condition (HABC) idea to the proposed formulation. An example is presented to show the effectiveness of the new boundary conditions and the results are then compared with the Nearly Perfectly Matched Layer (NPML) method.
