Abstract

Summary

This paper considers the application of multi-layer mapping of contrast resistivity boundaries technology, using the example of a successful horizontal ERD well, drilled at the West Salym field. This field is located in the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous district, the main targets are sandy bodies formed in the delta river beds and river plains. Geological section of the described sedimentation environments tends to have complex geometry and inconsistency of sand bodies along laterals, the presence of uncorrelated inclusions, compacted carbonatized sandstones. Close location of the oil-water contact (OWC) brings an additional uncertainty when drilling in the thin reservoir intervals. The use of multi-layer mapping complex, based on stochastic inversion of deep directional electromagnetic measurements, made it possible to determine the position of the wellbore with respect to low-resistance and high-resistance intervals in real time and, as a result, to maximize effective penetration through reservoir of the target objects.
