Summary

A synthetic study to evaluate the performance of surface seismic monitoring to monitor CO2 injection at 65m depth at the Svelvik field lab is conducted using a realistic geological model where effects due to complex topography and heterogeneous overburden are accounted for. We evaluate the performance a full waveform algorithm to monitor the migration of the injected CO2 plume. The preliminary results show that a very good baseline characterisation is of critical importance. In addition, the presence of strong diffractors on the weathered zone can have an important impact on the models that can be derived using full waveform inversion.
