Abstract

This paper reports the successful implementation of particle velocity sensors in a new dual-sensor towed marine streamer and presents examples of acquired and processed data from that streamer. Properly combining the recorded signals from the particle velocity sensors with those from the hydrophones cancels sea-surface ghost reflections and removes the notches from the data’s frequency spectrum caused by those ghost reflections. As a result, the streamer can be towed deeper below the sea surface than is currently practicable, and the data are much less affected by weather noise, without compromising its bandwidth. In fact, the bandwidth of the recorded data is increased.
