Abstract

Summary

Total organic carbon (TOC) from core historically has been used to show quality of source rock variability. These measurements are widely used to evaluate unconventional reservoir to achieve maximum productivity. Through the calibration of TOC from core data and estimated TOC derived from petrophysical techniques, TGS has developed a regional 3D model of TOC. This study has developed an innovative approach to visualise TOC variability both laterally and vertically across the Delaware Basin, US. The aim is to redress the historically simplistic assumptions about TOC variability across the basin. This study has shown TOC throughout the key stratigraphic layers are more variable than previously perceived.
