Abstract
In this paper, we present results from a student-led project on the West Jiwo Hill of Bayat region located in the Central Java Island close to the subduction zone between Indian-Australian plate and the Eurasian plate. The objectives were to integrate surface geological investigations with subsurface geophysical methods (gravity and very-low frequency electromagnetic) in order to update an older geological map prepared by the Indonesian Center of Geology Research and Development, as well as to delineate and identify the safe zones for the proposed urban development in the study area. The results show the presence of subsurface faults in the West Jiwo Hill that were not identified in previous studies. Thus, we recommend that the local government use the results of this investigation as a basis for any future urban development in the region.
