Abstract

Summary

The E&P industry has accumulated more data than arguably any other industry in the last 100 years. Are we however maximizing the full value of the data and the information we all hold on proven oil and gas fields? The greatest challenge to doing so is getting access to relevant data that is systematically documented and classified. 25 years ago a dedicated team has been synthesizing geoscience understanding, production history and the technologies applied to the world's most important fields and reservoirs. A global knowledge base has been established following a consistent knowledge structure and a proven classification system through which valuable and real insights can be accurately captured.

This field and reservoir knowledge allows characterization of source rocks, seals, traps and reservoirs, which can guide and optimize E&P strategies. The global field and reservoir knowledge base allows the selection of applicable analogs to address exploration, development and production challenges. Costly mistakes can be made by applying wrong analogs in exploration. We will show how to use global knowledge to better mitigate risk, manage uncertainty and forecast reservoir performance. The combination of global analog knowledge, with the latest analytical technologies and calibrated local data can further improve E&P performance.
