Abstract

Summary

A multi-dimensional approach is utilized on regional 2D seismic and modern 3D seismic data offshore Lebanon that significantly improves and evolves the geological understanding of the Levant region. The results of studies including: basin modeling, extensive fieldwork, forward modeling, 2D and 3D seismic interpretation, geochemical assessment and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data are presented in this work. The integrated reiterative approach along with the latest exploration results in the Eastern Mediterranean paved the way for an evolved insight into the petroleum prospectively of Lebanon. The seismic data, as this paper will show, promises prospective plays in the North Levant Basin offshore Lebanon that have similar geological affinities with existing discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean. The first exploration wells scheduled to be drilled at the end of the year are an exciting next step in Lebanon's contribution to delivering the hydrocarbon potential of the Eastern Mediterranean.
