Abstract
Here we show how validation and restoration workflows can simplify the interpretation of polyphase, salt-influenced structures. We combine multiple structural analysis techniques to assess the evolution of the Weymouth Anticline, situated in the Channel Basin, UK. The application of well-established techniques, traditionally applied to areas of relatively simple deformation (e.g. single-phase), is expanded to assist interpretation and assess structural evolution in more complex salt-influenced settings. Specifically, we use these techniques to assess temporal changes in the interaction of a supra- and sub-salt normal fault system where understanding the associated reservoir units can be problematic. The approach is applicable to global salt provinces and can provide critical information for exploration and field development (e.g. subsidence history, migration pathways, and strain distribution).
