Abstract
Regional pressure variation in the Cenozoic to Jurassic succession in the Danish Central Graben has been mapped and analysed. There are broadly two major compartments: one spanning the mid Miocene to upper Cretaceous chalk, where the sealing succession is constituted by Palaeogene to Miocene smectite rich clays, and a Jurassic system with a pressure component above hydrostatic that may exceed twice that seen at upper chalk level. The upper Cenozoic system can be described using methods that exploit correlation with degree of consolidation, whereas the Jurassic cannot. Modelled transient pressure development in the Cretaceous – Tertiary succession is calibrated with log information and compared to pressures including measurements and values obtained from standard consolidation analysis.
