Abstract

Summary

In March 2017, Vertical Seismic Profiling (VSP) data was acquired with the distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) technology at the Groß Schönebeck in-situ geothermal laboratory situated 50 km northeast from Berlin. The acquisition was performed in two research wells using a wireline cable. This technique introduces considerable noise, associated most likely with cable slapping and ringing inside the casing, which leads to additional complications in data processing. In this study processing steps for the elimination of so-called ringing noise are proposed and the results of their application are demonstrated. However, understanding the causes of the noise and introduction of prevention measures are required for the improvement of data quality and further development of the DAS wireline acquisition method.
