Abstract
Coal seam has low propagation velocity and low density compared with surrounding sand and shale rocks, resulting in bigger impedance difference and strong reflection on seismic profile, which makes more difficult for sand reservoir prediction. Aimed at this research problem, we propose an improved algorithm for strong seismic reflection separation of thin coal seam. Firstly, we analyze the characteristics of the reflection pattern according to the well logging interpretation results. And then based on the reflection pattern, we establish appropriate model to study the strong reflection features, and also set appropriate parameters to conduct strong seismic reflection separation by improved matching pursuit algorithm. Finally, we carry out strong seismic reflection separation for synthetics of well A and seismic data of the whole study area. Model test and practical application both show that this improved matching pursuit algorithm can separate the strong seismic reflection caused by thin coal seam effectively, and seismic attribute analysis before and after separation shows that the new result is highly consistent with the actual drilling results and the whole sedimentary rules.
