Abstract

Summary

In this abstract, we discuss an elastic full waveform inversion approach to estimate high resolution shallow subsurface elastic parameters from both surface and body waves in onshore seismic data. We have used a spacetime domain weighting function to balance the amplitudes of the dominant surface waves with respect to other body waves. This allows us to simultaneous extract information from the surface waves and from the refracted and reflected/converted body waves. The different wave types are complimentary in terms of depth and wavenumber information. The concept and results are illustrated using a complex 2D synthetic example representing a typical Middle-east geology.
